Giulia De Martino is an Italian clinical psychologist and painter. Her works are a celebration of chromatic exploration.
"My art explores the continuum from man to nature."
Giulia De Martino is a Sicilian artist and psychologist born in Sicily in 1992, where she lives and works. A self-taught artist since she was a teenager, she began drawing and in her early years, she approached abstract painting, experimenting with acrylics and oils. After her mother's death in 2020, a profoundly traumatic experience, she poured all her anguish into neo-expressionism with bright, intense colors, seeking to create works that are emotionally charged and disturbing, yet with an intrinsically positive message. She currently also practices as a psychologist.
She decided to immerse herself completely in painting and psychology and devote herself entirely to her passions. She deepened her studies in philosophy and became interested in neo-expressionism, particularly Basquiat. For his most recent works he uses acrylic and oil pastels, expressing himself with an intimate, visceral and even slightly childish language.
More
My painting is pure color and gestures, an open window to my inner world and a reflection on the human soul. In my works, chromatic research is the means through which I explore the multiple shades of human emotions, leading me on a journey in which art becomes a universal language to communicate with the world.
The philosophy that guides my work draws inspiration from Abstractionism and Expressionism, movements that celebrated the freedom of art and the depth of emotions. In my works, I try to capture the inner chaos, uncontrollable passions and human experiences that often escape words. I let the colors move on the canvas and merge into a symphony of emotions, thus creating a visceral connection between the artwork and the viewer.
My chromatic research takes place through traditional painting on canvas but also in digital illustrations, in fact I continued my studies, mixing them with illustrations and passion for Japanese manga and anime.I'm also experimenting with new works that are very close to pop culture
